Which Discord Role Bot Do You Actually Need?
Short answer: It depends on which job you are solving. General-purpose bots such as MEE6, Carl-bot, Dyno and YAGPDB cover leveling, moderation and self-assign role menus. RoleLogic covers the automation those bots leave out: roles that follow from other roles, roles that revoke themselves, roles verified against an external account, and roles synced between servers. Most servers run both.
Is RoleLogic a replacement for MEE6 or Carl-bot?
Not for most of what they do — and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Those bots are community bots: leveling, moderation, logging, welcome messages, custom commands, and menus members use to pick their own roles. RoleLogic is a role engine. It has no leveling, no moderation, and no reaction-role menus. What it has is the logic layer none of them provide: deciding a role from other roles, from a verified external account, or from another server, and — the part almost nothing does — taking that role back the moment it stops being true.
Three different jobs that all get called “roles”
Almost every “which role bot” argument is really two people solving different problems.
Members pick their own
A menu of colours, pronouns, game pings or notification opt-ins. This is reaction-role / button-role territory — Carl-bot, YAGPDB, Zira and similar.
Activity in this server earns it
Levels, message counts, invites, moderation state. That is what a general-purpose community bot like MEE6 or Dyno is built around.
A rule decides it
The member has these roles, proved this account, or holds a role in that server — so they get (and keep, or lose) this one. That is RoleLogic.

Nothing to migrate. It reads the roles that are already there.
Keep your existing bots exactly as they are
RoleLogic does not need to own the roles it reads. A level role, a reaction-role pick, or a Patreon role is a perfectly good condition.
Invite RoleLogic
Manage Roles only. It has no message intent, so it cannot read what your other bots read.
Position it above the roles it should change
Discord only lets a bot manage roles below its own position, so the RoleLogic role has to sit above every role it adds or removes. It only needs to outrank the roles it adds or removes — not the roles it reads.
Write the rule the other bot could not express
Start with the one that costs you the most manual work — usually a revoke. Test it in the sandbox, then enable it.
Where RoleLogic is genuinely the better tool
Narrow on purpose. These are the cases worth switching or adding for.
Revoking, not just granting
Most role features are one-way. If your actual problem is roles that outlive what earned them, that is the gap RoleLogic exists to fill.

Is RoleLogic a replacement for MEE6 or Carl-bot?
Not for leveling, moderation, logging, welcome messages, custom commands, or reaction-role menus — RoleLogic does none of those. It replaces the role-automation part: roles derived from other roles, roles verified against external accounts, roles synced between servers, and roles that revoke themselves. Running RoleLogic alongside a general-purpose bot is the normal setup.
Can I run RoleLogic and another role bot at the same time?
Yes, and it is common. RoleLogic reads whatever roles exist, regardless of which bot granted them. The one thing to avoid is two bots with opposite instructions about the same role — that produces a loop, which RoleLogic detects and stops the rule rather than fighting.
Does RoleLogic do reaction roles or button roles?
No. It has no self-assign menus. It is often paired with one: the menu hands out the pick, and a RoleLogic rule enforces what that pick means — removing the conflicting picks, unlocking access, or requiring another role alongside it.
Does RoleLogic do leveling or XP?
No. If your level roles come from another bot, RoleLogic can still act on them — cleaning up superseded level roles, or gating access behind a level role plus something else.

What can Discord do natively without any bot?
Onboarding can offer members a set of roles to pick during their first visit, and Linked Roles can gate a role behind a verified external connection. Neither can derive a role from other roles, remove a role when a member stops qualifying, or act across servers.
How do I decide quickly?
If members should choose the role themselves, you want a reaction-role bot. If activity inside this server should earn it, you want a community bot with leveling. If a rule should decide it — and un-decide it later — you want RoleLogic.
What permissions does RoleLogic need?
Only Manage Roles. RoleLogic cannot read messages, cannot access private channels, and cannot see member DMs. It only assigns and removes the roles you have linked to rules.
